The Health and Wellbeing Board has a statutory duty to complete a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA).
The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment is a report from the Somerset Health and Well-being Board on how well pharmacies and pharmacy services are provided to the people of Somerset. It includes community pharmacies (‘chemists’) and GP practices that dispense medicines in many rural areas. It also considers whether the number of pharmacies will still be adequate in the next four years. It is written to inform NHS England in its commissioning of services from pharmacies, and whether new pharmacies should be encouraged or permitted to open in the county.
